Obituary for Mrs. Joan LaDelle Reese Nix Joan LaDelle Reese Nix, 68, wife of Kenneth (Ken) Nix went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 19, 2018 with family at her side. Joan bravely fought breast cancer nearly 18 years and more recently pancreatic cancer. Joan is survived by her husband, Ken, son: Stephen (Heather) of Taylors, SC; daughter: Allison Fleahman (Matthew) of Central, SC; and two precious grandchildren, Sophie Fleahman and Andrew Fleahman; sister: Linda (Doug) Nix of Walhalla, SC; brother: Troy (Judy) Nix of Seneca, SC.
She is predeceased by her parents: Dock and Lois Reese and a brother, Earl Reese. Joan worked in banking for many years and was a bookkeeper, working school hours so she could be at home with her children. She also assisted in the family tax business for the past forty-five years.
Joan loved her family, friends, and her church. Joan was a wonderful cook, learning from both her parents, as well as from Ken’s mom. Her children began each school day with a home-cooked, hot breakfast and Ken very seldom went to work without breakfast for over forty-seven years, up and until she was not able to do so due to her health.
Cooking for her family and friends became her favorite pastime. She also loved tending to the flowers in her yard; zinnias, peonies and sunflowers just a few of her many favorites. Joan was an expert seamstress, making many of her clothes when she was younger, and much to the chagrin of her children, theirs as well.
She was a go-to within the community for sewing curtains, altering prom and wedding dresses, hemming skirts and pants, all done out of enjoyment and never wanting to charge a penny. She was an avid reader and much like her father, Joan loved word searches and jigsaw puzzles. Above all else, she enjoyed making memories with her two grandchildren.
Ken and Joan became sweethearts in the early 1960’s and would have been married forty-eight years on June 5th. Throughout her multiple diagnoses, Joan never complained, never asked why, never considered herself disabled and continued to give selflessly to others even in moments of extreme illness. We thank the caring staff at the Seneca GHS Cancer Center to include Katelyn, Crystal, Jessica, Carolyn, Missy and Dr, Jeffery Giguere.
We also thank the staff of the GHS Cottingham Hospice House, Hospice of the Foothills including Krystal, Gwen, Jan, Carol, Tina, Alison, and doctors Daniel Smith and Kathryn Rawdan. The family also gives heartfelt thank you to special friends Brenda, Sandra, Joan, Wanda, Pat and Joan’s angel, Janie Wilbanks. Joan was a member of Rocky Knoll Baptist Church and in her younger years taught primary Sunday school and summer bible schools at Mountain View Baptist Church.
