Joan Marie Strybel, 81, passed away in Louisville, KY, on March 3, 2019. Her infectious love of life and welcoming heart will be remembered by all who came in contact with her. Joan was a Louisville native; she was born on August 3, 1937, to the late Edward and Leona Cavanaugh.

She was passionate about her city, loving the pageantry and spectacle of the Derby and the arts scene. While she raised her family in San Diego, CA, and loved the sunshine, she returned to Louisville in 2007, enjoying creating her home here and laughter with her family. She is remembered for her giving spirit and open heart, her love of animals and her passion for beauty, especially in creating a home.

In true Southern tradition, she was a master storyteller and could spend hours creating and sharing tales with friends and family. Joan is preceded in death by her husbands: Dr. Walter F. Strybel and Captain Floyd Wayne McKinney, her son Walter F. Strybel III and her sibling Edwina Bell. Funeral services will be held at a later date at St. James Catholic Church in Louisville, KY.
