Samuel Robert Ranttila, 86, of Louisville, KY passed away peacefully on February 27, 2019 at Valhalla Post Acute. He was born July 22, 1932 in Warren, Ohio to the late Jacob E and Maria Matilda Ranttila. Sam was a veteran of the United States Navy and a member of the VFW.

He was a tire builder by trade and a “scratch” golfer in his day. Having retired to Florida decades ago, he was an avid sports fan and followed University of Florida football and University of Kentucky basketball in support of his grandson and son-in-law. He was blessed to have found love a second time when he met Marlene after they each lost their respective spouses.

They had a great life together traveling and splitting time between their homes in Florida and California before moving to Louisville a few years ago. He was proceeded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Joanne Ranttila, one sister and six brothers. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marlene Smith Ranttila; a daughter, Bonnie (Rick) Robey; a son, Ralph Ranttila; a grandson, Sam (Samantha) Robey.

He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Marla Cautilli and step-son, Steve (Kathy) Smith, step-grandchildren Allison (Seth) Fuller, Petey Cautilli, Michelle Smith and Nathan Smith. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Sam will be laid to rest in the Florida National Cemetery.
