JoAnn Engelking, age 80, of Arizona, died January 1, 2018. JoAnn (Wheeler) Engelking was born on September 19, 1937. She was one of eleven children, five brothers and five sisters.

She married Franklin Engelking on December 29, 1957. They had five children, Frank, Floyd, Forest, Faron and Frances. Franklin passed away August 10, 1981.

She worked as a waitress at Googies and Bob’s Big Boy for a year. In 1971, she began her career at Motorola. She continued working there for over 30 years until she retired.

She was baptized and became a member of the Lord’s Church in 1971. In 1974, the family moved back to Iowa. JoAnn spent much of the next four years sitting at the hospital with her husband and uncle.

During that time she learned how to crochet and mad all her kids afghans. In 1978 they moved back to Arizona. In Arizona she also like to quilt.

In 2005 after she retired and took on the job of raising two of her great-grandchildren until 2013 when she was unable to continue. She is survived by her sons Frank, Floyd, Forest, Faron and Frances; grandkids Joshua, Lucas, Angie, Terry Jo, J.R., Crystal and Daniel; at least nine great-grandchildren, taking in as her own and raising Ruben and Daray; brothers Herb Wheeler, Jim Wheeler and Ron Wheeler and sisters Lois Crabtree, Kay Calloway, Joyce Stine, Sharon Clemens and Sonja Nurmi. JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, ex-husband Franklin, and two brothers Ernest Wheeler and Robert Wheeler.
