Joann Yoder passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, September 30, 2018 with her children at her side. Joann was born February 12, 1932 in Fairmont, WV to the late Charles Edward and Laura (Anderson) Menear. She graduated from Bristol (WV) High School with a scholarship to Salem College but elected Fairmont State Nursing School.

On… Read More » October 1, 1954, Joann met the love of her life Bob while standing at an elevator. Bob was completing his internship and announced to the intern that day that he was going to marry her.

Joann and Bob were married on January 29, 1955 in Columbus and cherished over 60 years of marriage. In 1958, Joann and Bob moved to Toledo to continue raising their family. Joann loved to cook and is fondly remembered for many wonderful family meals, especially “Mom’s Chicken” and her “Hanky Panks”.

Joann loved to read, listen to music, and look for deer on walks in Wildwood MetroPark. She had been active for years with the Toledo Hospital Auxiliary, participated in bowling and tennis leagues and her passion was playing golf with Bob and their many friends in both Toledo and Florida. Joann and Bob joined The Inverness Club in 1959 and were known for their involvement in the 1986 and 1993 PGA Championships as well as the 2003 and 2011 U.S. Senior Open Championship.

Through the years, they continued their love of golf, friends and warm weather and bought a second home at Harbor Ridge in Palm City, FL. Joann was a longtime member of Epworth United Methodist Church A dedicated daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and sister, she is survived by her children, Douglas (Vickie) Yoder, Brian (Beth) Yoder, Bruce Yoder, Jeanne (Gary) Zaciewski, Jan (Jim) Schwarzkopf; sisters, Pat (Dave) McMechan, Neva Walsh; sister-in-law, Alice Marotz; grandchildren, Jason, Ben, Nicolle (Jeremy), Justin, Lauren (Marc), Olivia, Brittney, Michael, Sara, Collin, Hannah, Bob (Elizabeth), Brian (Ajay) and Meredith (Griffin); and great grandchildren, Brandon, Connor and Brody. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bob in 2015; and brothers-in-law, Michael Walsh and Robert Marotz.

Visitation will be held from 2-7 p.m. Thursday in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave (west of Corey Rd. ). Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 5, 2018 at Epworth United Methodist Church, 4855 Central Avenue, Toledo.

Burial will follow at Toledo Memorial Park. Memorials are suggested to the Evans Scholar Fund, 1 Briar Rd. , Golf, IL 60029.
