Obituary for Joe Chester Murdock Joe Chester Murdock, 77, of Anderson, passed away June 27, 2018 at his home after a 10 year bout with cancer. He was born in Madison County to Chester and Bessie (Edington) Murdock on May 18, 1941. He lived here all of his life, graduating in 1959 from Madison Heights High School.

He married Bette Wilson, who survives, in July of 1960. Joe worked over 30 years as a diesel mechanic and retired from Burlington Motor Carriers in 2002. An Avid bowler, he bowled over 50 years in local leagues starting back at Rains, Rustic, Brown and Norwood Lanes.

He and Bette enjoyed traveling all over the United States with good friend, Jane Simmons; and to casinos with gambling buddies, Dave and Barb Harless. Joe enjoyed watching old westerns and NASCAR. In his later years, he enjoyed going to the casino where he met many nice people.

He was very handy and could fix or repair just about anything, especially if you told him it couldn’t be fixed. The grandkids knew where to bring their broken toys. Left to cherish his memory, his wife of 58 years; two sons, Randall (Army) Murdock of Muncie and Robert Murdock of Anderson; and a daughter-in-law, Sandra Murdock of Anderson.

Siblings, George (Carol) Murdock, Rick (Kathy) Murdock both of Texas, Mark (Francie) Murdock and Patty McClain both of Anderson. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Shane (Kaileigh) Murdock of Muncie, Haylee (Cory) Hemp of Anderson, Jonathan and Emily Murdock of Muncie; three step-grandchildren, Michael Gill and Beth Sterlitz of Muncie, and David (Krystal) Gill of North Carolina; two great-grandchildren, Alex and Bryton Murdock of Anderson; and four step-grandchildren. He is survived by many nieces and nephews, including Paula, Kelly, and Nikki Shelton of Virginia who he considered as the daughters he never had, and Kim Duell, who helped him in many ways; an aunt, Helga Modlin; and several cousins.

Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Rusty Murdock; brother, Frank Murdock; and sister, Gloria Shelton. The family would like to thank Dr. Siddiqui and Dr. Zook and his many nurses at the Community Cancer center; and the Kindred hospice nurse and aide who helped to make Joe’s last days more comfortable. Visitation will be Monday, July 2, 2018 from 11-1:00 PM at Loose Funeral Homes and Crematory; 200 W. 53rd Street; Anderson.
