Obituary for Joe Greiner Joseph “Joe” Frank Greiner, age 61, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at the University of Iowa Hospital after a one-year battle with cancer. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 22, 2018, at St. James Catholic Church with Fr. Bernie Weir officiating.

Calling hours will begin 3:00 p.m. Friday, December 21st at St. James Catholic Church where the family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday evening. Interment will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for St. James Church, Hospice of Washington County or the United Presbyterian Home.

Joe was born December 24, 1956, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Howard J. and Marcella (Kaska) Greiner. He graduated from Washington High School in 1975. Joe was united in marriage to Bette Walker on February 20, 1976, at St. James Catholic Church in Washington.

Joe was raised on a farm and truly enjoyed farming. In 1985, the family started a new adventure in Silverthorne, Colorado. In 1986, they moved to Keota, Iowa where Joe and Bette owned and operated J and B Market until 1989.

They returned to Colorado and opened a tire store in Eagle-Vail and then later moved to Washington, Iowa in 1998 and opened Greiner Discount Tires. Joe was a member of St. James Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending time outside mowing his lawn and trimming his roses.

He also enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren. Joe truly enjoyed family time. He also started traveling down South every year where he relaxed and soaked up the sun while sitting on the beach.

He is survived by his wife, Bette Greiner of Washington, IA; son, Joshua Greiner and wife Jennifer and their children: Kaleb, Kylie, Ava and Joslyn, of Washington, IA; daughter, Abby VanderWeide and husband Nathan and their children: Payton and Kohen, of Washington, IA: siblings: Jane Doherty and husband Dr. Cornelious of San Francisco, CA; Linda Stortenbecker and husband Henry of Auburn, WA; Nancy Flynn and husband Jerome of Keota, IA; Patricia Norenberg and husband Jay of Pensacola, FL; Stephen Greiner and wife Mary Ann of Washington, IA; Ann Tweeton and husband Dr. William of Washington, IA; and Thomas Greiner and fiancé Lena Grady of Kewanee, IL; sister-in-law, Bonnie Parriott and husband Cliff of Davenport, IA; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Greiner; brothers-in-law, Terry Walker and Rich Vosika; and nephew, EJ Vosika.
