John A. Harper, Sr., 68, of McKeesport on Sunday, April 22, 2018 in UPMC McKeesport. John, affectionately known as, “Coo” and “Sarg”, was born July 12, 1949 in McKeesport, son of the late Charles Edward and Vivian E. Collins Harper. He was preceded in death by his son, Edward Harper on July 22, 1985.

A retiree from General Motors B.O.C and received his Associates degree from CCAC. John was a US Army veteran and received the Purple Heart. John was a member of the American Legion Henry C. Williams Post #666 of McKeesport, the Booker T. Washington Lodge #218 I.B.P.O.E. of W, the Pride of the West Lodge #84 F&AM, and the Prince Hall Masonic Temple.

Surviving are his fiancé, Ernestine Wright of McKeesport; three children, John A. (Laureese) Harper, Jr. of McKeesport, Timothy Russell of Cleveland, OH, Eric M. (Starr) Harper of McKeesport; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; five siblings, Charles Harper of Monessen, Curtis (Sara) Harper of High Point, NC, Andre Harper of McKeesport, Ellen (Fran) Crosby of Elizabeth, Thelma Underwood of McKeesport, nieces, nephews, cousins and many other friends and relatives, who loved him. Friends will be received Saturday from 6- 8 pm and Sunday from 4- 8 pm in the Robert A. Waters Funeral Home, Inc., 2326 Jenny Lind Street, McKeesport Services will be held Monday at 11:00 p.m.in the St. Paul A.M.E. Church, 1350 Locust Street, McKeesport, Pennsylvania. Interment will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville.
