John E Kohrs, September 02, 1938 — July 03, 2018

Obituary for John E Kohrs John Kohrs of Red Wing, died on July 3, 2018 surrounded by family at the age of 79. He was born on September 2, 1938 in Red Wing to Edward and Leonora Kohrs. He graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1956.

He served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958 and the National Guard from 1958 to 1962. John was honorably discharged from the Army and National Guard on October 27, 1962. He married Doris Puppe on July 1, 1962 in Red Wing and they recently celebrated 57 years of marriage.

He was employed at the Goodhue County National Bank for 40 years. He was a 1969 graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Madison school of banking. He received a gift of life with a kidney transplant on July 7, 1983 and it served him well until the time of his death on Tuesday.

He is survived by his wife Doris; son, Tom of Red Wing; daughters, Lori Ness of Rochester and Kris (Scott) Swenson of Rosemount; grandchildren, Lindsay (Derrick) Macken, Mitchell Ness, Corey, Samantha and Ashley Swenson; great-grandson Lucas Macken; sisters, Marlys Odean of Aurora, Ill. , Marilyn (Stanley) Diercks of Red Wing, Audrey (Jim) Horn of Red Wing and brother-in-law Joe Kunze of Maple Grove. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Yvonne; grandchildren, Megan and Katie Ness and Ben Swenson; son-in-law Rollie Ness.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m., Monday, July 9, 2018 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Red Wing with a visitation one hour before the service. In Lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the St. John’s Lutheran Church endowment fund or the National Kidney Foundation. Arrangements with Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
