Obituary for Shirley I. Lund Shirley I. Lund, age 88, of Wanamingo died on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at the Mayo Clinic Hospital – Rochester, St. Marys Campus. The memorial service will be on Friday, September 21, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wanamingo with Pastor Christopher Culuris officiating. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be on Thursday, September 20, 2018 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home – Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Friday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Shirley Ione Syverson was born on June 11, 1930 in Roscoe Township, Goodhue Co., MN to Kenneth O. and Berdella G. (Hoven) Syverson. She grew up on the farm, attended country school at Roscoe Center and graduated in 1946 from Wanamingo High School.

Shirley earned her two year Teaching Certificate from Mankato Teachers College. Shirley married Ronald C. Lund on August 27, 1950 in Wanamingo. They made their home in Mound and returned to Wanamingo in 1951.

In 1958 they moved to Holmen, WI; returning to Wanamingo in 1961. In 1968, Shirley returned to Mankato State University and in 1969 she graduated with her four year Teaching Degree. Shirley started teaching elementary school in Zumbrota that same year, earned her Master Degree from the University of Minnesota and retired in 1995.

Shirley loved to sing, she could be caught singing as she worked around the house, driving her car, or on the pontoon at the lake. She was a member of the Villagers for many years and sang in the Trinity Lutheran Church choir and during the Kenyon Summer Musicals. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and also a member of the Red Hatters and Delta Kappa Gamma.

She was an avid bridge player and was a member of several Bridge Clubs. She also enjoyed reading, cooking, cheering for the Vikings, sewing and playing other card games especially with her family. Shirley is survived by her children, Barbi (Marv) Farmer of Northfield, Wendy (Gary) Teigen of Andover, Rahn (Ann) Lund of Rochester, Jeri (Kevin) Ryan of Wanamingo and Teri Lund of Zumbrota; grandchildren, Brenda Farmer, Dave Farmer, Chris (Tricia) Smedsrud, Karin (Mike) Berg, Shane Farmer, Johana Teigen, Reid Teigen, Alex (Josey) Peterson, Ali Ryan, Mitch (Kelli) Ryan, Whitney Ryan and Jordan Ryan; great-grandchildren, Cole Farmer, Taylor Smedsrud, Marisa Smedsrud, Abby Smedsrud, Kennely Farmer, Paisley Ryan, Lauren Berg, Luke Berg and Leah Berg; sister, Val Hugstad; brother-in-law, Roger Stockmo; sister-in-law, Karen Lund-Blust and many nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Lund; parents, Berdella and Kenneth O. Syverson; sister, Bonnie Stockmo; mother and father-in-law, Dora and William Lund; brothers-in-law, Dave Hugstad and Bill Lund and Godson, Scott Hugstad. Shirley’s family wishes to extend special thanks to Linda Bannitt, Carla Rothen, Heidi Spratte, DeAnne and Armin Schrimpf and all the staff at Rehoboth Care Center. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church.
