Obituary for Phyllis M. Walter Phyllis M. Walter, 93, of Wanamingo died Sunday, September 2, 2018 at the North Ridge View Assisted Living in Kenyon. A memorial service will be on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wanamingo with Pastor Christopher Culuris officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Island Cemetery.

Visitation will be for one our prior to the service at the church. Phyllis Marion Weeks was born on February 20, 1925 in Pine Island, MN to Miles and Pearl (McGowan) Weeks. She graduated from Pine Island High School in 1943.

Phyllis then attended the University of Minnesota and graduated in 1947 as a dental hygienist. She worked in Rochester until her marriage. On July 29, 1950 she married her high school sweetheart William E. Walter at the United Methodist Church in Pine Island.

They resided in Minneapolis while he completed his Doctor of Medicine and she worked as a dental hygienist. They moved to Wanamingo in August of 1954. Phyllis enjoyed doing volunteer work.

She organized the Red Cross Blood Mobile and volunteered many years at the Zumbrota Nursing Home. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir and participated in Ladies Circle. Her favorite past time was playing bridge.

Of course, she also loved watching the Minnesota Vikings! Both Phyllis and Bill shared many hobbies from fishing, bird watching, harvesting maple syrup and traveling. She was so proud of her children.

Her four grandsons and three great-grandchildren brought her so much joy. Phyllis is survived by her son, Jeffrey (Lynda) of West Virginia, daughter, Jennifer (Glenn) Proudfoot of New York and son, Todd (Jaclyn) of Pine Island; grandsons, Guy Walter, Joseph (Laura) Walter, William (Jordyn) Walter and Bradley Walter; great-grand-children, Maya Walter, Jack Walter and Maggie Walter; brother-in-law, James (Pat) Walter and numerous nieces and nephews. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William Walter on April 29, 2012; daughter, Jacqueline Walter on October 10, 2010 and sister, Donna Porath and brother, Allen Weeks.
