Obituary for John Francis Schumacher Print Schumacher, John F. Of Excelsior, was born September 2, 1928 and passed away peacefully with his family by his side January 25, 2019 at the age of 90. Preceded in death by his parents John and Thelma, 5 siblings and son-in-law James Albertson. Survived by his wife of 62 years Mary Catherine Schumacher, daugh-ter Annie; sons Paul, Mark (Maggie), Peter and Matthew; grandchildren Allison, Matthew (Colleen), John Richard (Simin), Andrew, Michael, Sarah, Peter, Kate, Hanna, Jane, Caroline, Annalise; great granddaughter Julia; sister Charlene Sloan, of Denver CO: and many other loving family and friends.

His family migrated to California at the age of 15 where he graduated from Alameda High, was drafted into the US Army and proudly served in Korea from 1951-53 as a Sargent in the 40th Infantry Division. He returned from the war and married his bride Mary. Working briefly in the grocery business as a produce manger he moved his young family back to Minnesota in the early 1960’s for better opportunities in the meat business.

He became an entrepreneur and a leader in the wholesale meat business in the Midwest. As the president of Schumacher Wholesale Meats he was an early innovator and adopter of modern meat processing technologies. He served as an officer of the National Association of Meat Purveyors, The National Restaurant Association and the American Meat Institute.

Member of the Knights of Columbus and US Power Squadron. Above all John was a family man. Coming from humble beginnings, he prided himself on providing a wonderful life for his family.

In his own quiet way, he supported many and will always be remembered for his soft, kind heart. Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM Thursday (1/31) at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 680 Mill Street, Excelsior, with visitation starting at 10 AM. Private family interment.
