Obituary for John “Hal” Byne John “Hal” Byne Grovetown, GA – Entered into rest Thursday, June 28, 2018, Mr. John Hallahan Byne, 71, loving husband of 50 years to Mrs. Sarah Toomey Byne. Mr. Byne was born in Augusta and was a member of St. Teresa of Avila. He was raised on Beman Street, and spoke fondly of his youth playing baseball and football at Central Park.
Hal was a graduate of the class of 1966 and a 2nd lieutenant in ROTC at the Academy of Richmond County. He spent a summer as a lifeguard at Daytona Beach, and played drums in a band, the Features, for several years. Having tremendous technical skills he was employed as a field technician for National Cash Register for 27 years and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with those around him.
He looked forward to the Masters golf tournament in the spring, the beach and lake in the summer, UGA football in the fall, and waiting for winter to end. Hal enjoyed camping and boating at Clarks Hill Lake, which he once owned. His tireless wit, persistent humor, and good cheer brought stability and love to his family.
Family members, in addition to his wife include son: Wes Byne (Kim); daughter: Shannon Byne Denton (Ray); grandchildren: Brittney Denton, Helen Denton, Sophia Byne, Amelia Byne, and Marina Byne; and sister: Colleen Davis. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister: Shannon Chiles, of Lakeland, Florida. The funeral service will be private.
In lieu of flowers the family requests charitable donations be made to St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, 4921 Columbia Road, Grovetown, GA 30813.
