John (Jack) L. Hayes, Jr., 90, of Monticello, formerly of Mahomet and Champaign, passed away on Sunday, May 19, in Monticello. A memorial Mass will be held at 10 am, Saturday, June 1, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 403 W. Clark St., Champaign, followed by the burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Champaign. A reception will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn, Champaign, from 1 to 6 pm.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Owens Funeral Home. Jack was born in Champaign on November 3, 1928, to John L. Hayes, Sr. and Ann Hayes. He graduated from Champaign Central High School in 1946, then graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in accounting.

After graduating from college, he joined the United States Navy, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He worked at the University of Illinois until he retired at the age of 55. Jack married Joanne (Daugherty) Hayes on August 21, 1950, and they had three children, Mark, Jeff, and Karin.

He is survived by his children Jeff and Karin, five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne and his son, Mark.
