John J. “Jack” Oris, 81, of Torrington, CT, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2019. He was the husband of the late Joan (Butler) Oris who preceded him in death on August 18, 2018. Jack was born April 24, 1937, in Waterbury, CT, son of the late Joseph and Margaret (Durkin) Oris.

An educator of Technical Education, he also served as Superintendent for Tech Ed in the Waterbury School System, and held several administrative positions in school districts throughout the state. Jack not only enjoyed teaching his trade, also woodworking in his free time. He was a lifelong avid Red Sox fan.

He is survived by two sons, Daniel Oris of Thomaston, CT, Steven Oris of Seymour, CT; three step sons, Mark Thulin of Bristol, John Thulin of Torrington, Timothy Thulin of Watertown; two step daughters, Patricia Halloran of Southington, Kristin Van Wright of Torrington; eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Oris and one sister, Mary Ann Oris Labaha. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington.

Burial will follow at St. Peter Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday, January 16, 2019, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to Jack’s family by visiting www.
