Final Flight Our husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend passed away at home 16 October 2018. Born 6 April 1921 to Zelda Morrison and Leslie Whipple. Graduated East High School and studied engineering at University of Utah.

Joined Army Air Corp and graduated Glider Flight School. Landed “back of line” on D-Day, 6 June 1944. Also landed in Holland invasion and Rhine Crossing.

Was co-pilot on C-47’s supply operations and was C-47 navigator evacuating wounded troops. Employed in family business where he met “the most wonderful lady I have ever known,” Audrey Wallace. They were married 26 December 1950, later solemnized at Salt Lake Temple.

They had two children, John Roberts, Jr. and Elizabeth. Managed department stores for, and later retired from, Allied Stores (now Macy’s). With his wife, he owned and operated JR’s Department Store and the Bard’s Inn Bed and Breakfast in Cedar City, Utah.

Retired to home in Millcreek, Utah. Predeceased by parents, brother Keith, and son John. Survived by wife; daughter (husband Hugh); grandsons Jack, Patrick, and Nelson; nephews and nieces James, Kent, Kathy, John, Michael, and Trish.

Funeral services will be held at East Mill Creek 16th Ward, 3408 Celeste Way at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 22. A visitation will precede the service from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Interment at Salt Lake City Cemetery. Guestbook available at HolbrookMortuary.com.

In lieu of flowers, Jack requested donations to Veterans of Foreign Wars.
