John K. Hershey, 86, of Lancaster passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 in his home. Born on April 22, 1932 in Mount Joy, John was the son of the late Christian and Myrtle Kuhn Hershey. He was married to Yvonne L. Hershey for 50 years.

John was employed as a wireman at PP&L in Lancaster for 30 years, retiring in 1994. He then worked for Manheim Auto Auction, retiring in 2013. John proudly served in an airborne unit of the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1955.

An avid animal lover, he enjoyed his many dogs over the years. John’s hobbies included collecting Civil War memorabilia and matchboxes, reading, listening to country music, traveling, and golfing. John was a member of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lancaster, and more recently LCBC Church, Manheim.

John will be lovingly missed by his two children Michael D. married to Chaundra Unrein Hershey, Montrose, CO and Johnna M. married to Bryan Ashewood, Brookeville, MD as well as his two grandchildren Danielle and Selene Ashewood. John is survived by five sisters — Vivian Walter, Dorothy Longenecker, Doris Hershey, Beverly Geib, and Donna Wagaman. He was preceded in death by two brothers — Lloyd Hershey and Richard Hershey.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral at the Sheetz Funeral Home, Inc., 16 E. Main Street, Mount Joy, on Wednesday, January 9 at 11 am. Interment to follow at Henry Eberle Cemetery, Mount Joy. There will be no viewing; however, John’s family will greet friends from 10:30 to 11 am.
