John Paul Pohlmeyer, 62, of West Burlington, died at 10:45 PM Monday, September 10, 2018, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born December 18, 1955, in Quebec, Canada, he was the son of Paul and Ruth Pohlmeyer. On May 17, 1980, he married Joyce Ann Mosena in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Burlington.

He worked as a carpet cleaner, delivery driver and was the owner/operator of a janitorial service. He graduated from Aquinas High School in Fort Madison in 1975. John was adopted December 1957 by Paul and Ruth Pohlmeyer.

He later became a Naturalized Citizen of the United States. He was of Catholic faith and was a member of Divine Mercy Parish. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was a Cubs fan, enjoyed fishing, and playing cards. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and taking family vacations. Survivors include his wife, Joyce of West Burlington; two sons, Jason Pohlmeyer of Burlington and Aron (Kerry) Pohlmeyer of Chicago; two grandchildren: Hailey and Kyle Pohlmeyer; and one sister, Ann (John) Deegan of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends following a 5:00 PM Rosary Service, Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Pohlmeyer will be 10:00 AM Friday, September 14, 2018, at Divine Mercy Parish-SS.

Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington with Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz as the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir.

Burial will be at a later date. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the parish hall at St. Mary’s Catholic Church following the mass. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for St. Vincent de Paul Society food pantry in Burlington and the Great River Hospice House.
