John R Cataldo , February 21, 1951 — May 18, 2018

John R. Cataldo, beloved husband, amazing father, son, brother, uncle and friend of Mountainside, NJ passed away unexpectedly on May 18, 2018 at his home. John pursued everything he did in life with great passion. Born on February 21, 1951 in Brooklyn, NY to John and Marie (nee Gambardella).

John was a loyal and loving son. He graduated from St. John’s Prep School and went on to obtain a BS in economics from St. John’s University. John began working on Wall Street at Morgan Guaranty Trust Company as a Municipal Bond Trader.

This job was only part of what John was capable of, his passion was working with his partner Joseph Pane, who was like a brother to John, as they worked closely together building a Real Estate business in Brooklyn. In the 1980’s John left Wall Street to successfully follow his passion for Real Estate as he owned and managed apartment buildings and properties in Brooklyn and Staten Island. John met the love of his life Patricia in 1986 and they married on May 6, 1989.

Together they raised a beautiful family with sons John (27), Matthew (25) and daughter Stephanie (24). They just celebrated 29 years of marriage. Those who knew John looked to him as a fountain of knowledge, always willing to impart wisdom and advice to anyone in need.

You could ask him any question, on any topic, and he would know the answer. He was the rock for his family and so many others. He will be greatly missed.

John is survived by his wife Patricia and his three children, along with his mother Marie, his sister Nancy, his brother Dennis (Phyllis), his brother-in-law and sister-in-law John and Kathy and sister-in-law Laura as well as many nieces and nephews. John was also considered an “Uncle” to many others. He also leaves a legacy behind of lifelong friendships.

John was a rare friend who could always be counted on, continually willing to go the extra mile for those he cared for. Rest in Peace John, we love you and miss you. In Lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to Oxalosis and Hyperoxaluria Foundation.

The viewing will be held on Monday May 21st from 4-8 at Higgins & Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Avenue, Westfield, New Jersey 07090. The funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes church in Mountainside on Tuesday May 22nd at 10 am.
