John Robert Harvey , May 23, 1930 — December 20, 2018

John Robert Harvey, 88, of Macomb passed at 12:00 a.m. on December 20, 2018 at Wesley Village in Macomb. He is survived by his loving wife, Delores Harvey, James R. Harvey (Son, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren), Jay R. Harvey (Son), and Jennifer R. Harvey (Daughter, two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren). He is preceded in death by Jeffrey R. Harvey (Son, four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren) and John Robert Harvey, Jr. (Son who died in infancy).

John was born on May 23, 1930 in Marion, Indiana to parents Edna Davis Harvey and Paul Milton Harvey. He married Delores Hill Harvey on April 15, 1951 in Lafayette, Indiana. He received a Bachelors Degree from Purdue University in 1952, a Masters Degree from The University of Michigan in 1968, and a Doctorate from Ohio State University 1978.

His career included the positions of Director of Health Education at the City-County Health Department of Ann Arbor, Washtenaw County, Michigan; Health Commissioner of the Butler County Health Department in Ohio; Teacher at East Tennessee State University, and Professor of Health Sciences at Western Illinois University from which he retired in 2002. He was an avid Ham Radio Operator and achieved the Amateur Extra Class license, the highest class of license in the United States. Over the years, he was an active member of the Kiwanis Club in various communities including the Macomb local chapter.

The Family would like to thank the staff of Wesley Village and MDH Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MDH Hospice. Cremation rights have been accorded.

Private burial of cremains will be held at a later time. Clugston – Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb is in charge of arrangements.
