John William Hendricks, Jr. February 11, 1938 – May 25, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card John William Hendricks Jr., 81, of Shepherdstown, died Saturday, May 25, 2019, at Hospice of the Panhandle following a long illness. Born Feb. 11, 1938, in Martinsburg, he was the son of John W. Hendricks, Sr. and Bessie (Osbourn) Hendricks.

After farming the family farm for many years, he was employed by the USDA Appalachian Fruit and Research Station of Kearneysville from which he retired in 2003. He was an active member of New Street United Methodist Church of Shepherdstown, where he served as Chair of Administrative Board for 20 years. John was a graduate of Shepherdstown High School, class of 1956.

He was a Master Mason of the Elk Branch Lodge No. 93, Shenandoah Junction, He was a over 50-year member of the Potomac Commandery No. 5 of the Knights Templar.

He served in the U.S. Army Reserve, 351st Ordinance Company, in Martinsburg for 8 years from 1956-1964. He is survived by his wife at home of 60 years, Carole (Buhrman) Hendricks, at home; sons, John W. Hendricks, III and wife Carolyn of Morgantown, and Michael A. Hendricks of Greencastle, Pennsylvania; one daughter Elizabeth H. Fairall and husband Brian of Columbia, Maryland; grandchildren, Zachary M. Hendricks, Karlee E. Hendricks and Isaac M. Fairall; a sister, Mary Katherine Handzo and husband Stephen of Summerville, South Carolina and a niece and nephew. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Marie H. Denton.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at New Street United Methodist Church, 202 W. New St., Shepherdstown, with Rev. Dee-Ann Dixon officiating. Interment in Elmwood Cemetery, Shepherdstown.
