OBITUARY Johnny Durant Spencer September 17, 1933 – September 20, 2018 Johnny Durant Spencer, 85, of Hildebran, passed away Thursday, September 20th, following a lengthy illness. Born September 17, 1933, in Burke County, he was the son of William Fate Spencer and Zelda Lowman Spencer. Mr. Spencer retired from Areva Group in Lynchburg VA, and also retired from the National Guard after 28 years of service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sue McLean, brother-in-law John Marr, his previous wife Iris Spencer, and his son’s mother, Joyce Spencer. A member of First Baptist Church in Hildebran, Mr. Spencer is survived by his wife, Bobbie Lindsay Honeycutt Spencer, his son, Michael Spencer and wife Rosemarie of Amawalk NY, step-daughters Karen Stanberry of Lynchburg VA, and Bridget Magley and husband Keith of Ormond Beach FL, step-sons Ben Honeycutt and Barney Honeycutt of Hildebran, his sisters June Marr and Linda Lindsay and husband Bob of Hickory, 2 step-grandchildren, 3 great step-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church in Hildebran on Sunday, Sept.

23, at 4pm. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:45 until 3:45, prior to the service. Pastor Ron Arndt and Vicar Heather Langan are officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association – Western Carolina Chapter, 4600 Park Road, Suite 250, Charlotte, NC 28209, or First Baptist Church in Hildebran (PO Box 220).
