Obituary for Joseph A. McCollian Jr. Joseph A. McCollian Jr., age 70, son of the late Joseph and Kathryn McCollian, passed away on Tuesday October 10th at Brinton Manor in Glen Mills, PA. He is survived by his loving wife Lydia “Terri” McCollian, and children Amy m. Keith Novak, Kelly m. Robert Stone, Joseph m. Danielle McCollian. He was loved by his grandchildren Dakota McCollian, Madeline and Theodore Novak, Alexandra and Tyler Stone, Joseph and Gianna McCollian, and his beloved goddaughter Elizabeth Jerdon.
His brother, William and his wife Susan, nephews Daniel, Brennan all loved him dearly. Born in Philadelphia on September 8th, 1948, he attended Collingdale High School. Joe lived and raised his family in Aldan, PA and took great pride in all things Delaware County.
After serving in the Marine Corp Reserves, Joe built a career at Bell Atlantic, later Verizon. He started as a splicer and after 38 years retired as a manager. Throughout his life, Joe served as Aldan Borough Councilman and Council President, Aldan Swim Club Board member, and coached numerous softball, baseball and basketball teams for the Aldan Girls and Boys Club.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge 711. Joe was a loyal and loving son, husband, father, brother, uncle, and cousin. He devoted his life to family and community, building strong relationships with his sons and daughter in laws, friends and at work.
He advocated and pushed for all those he loved to pursue their dreams, and in some cases, even more. He supported his children in all of their endeavors and, after retiring from Verizon, started a business with his son Joe. Joe and Terri enjoyed spending time on their deck, enjoying a good cigar and listening to music.
He loved to golf anywhere and everywhere, especially with his sons in law and friends. As a true Delaware County native, he loved the Phillies and the Eagles. Joe always had a “corny” joke to tell and had a great sense of humor.
Those who knew him, knew that he liked to be in charge and had a thrifty nature. No one but Joe touched his lawn and he was known to change his own car oil or brakes. His stroke, 12 years ago, took most of the things that he enjoyed away from him.
With this in our minds, his family finds peace in his passing and knows that he is reliving his hole in one in heaven. He will leave an empty space in many hearts. Friends and family are invited to a viewing and memorial service at starting at 9:30 am on Monday October 15th at Williams Lombardo Funeral Home in Clifton Heights, PA.
