Leominster – Joseph A. “JT” Turano, age 97 of Leominster, MA passed away peacefully on Thursday May 24, 2018. Born in San Giovanni Rotondo, Italy on October 20, 1920, he was the son of Anthony Turano and Angela (Longo) Turano. Joe immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island, NY at the age of nine.

He attained his citizenship in 1955 and was a lifelong Leominster resident. Joe will forever be remembered by his wife Janine (Archambault) Turano of Leominster, his children Matthew Turano and his wife Christine of Sterling, MA, and daughter Jodi (Turano) Michaud and her husband Gregory of Stow, MA; four grandchildren, William and Jack Michaud, and Joseph and Ryan Turano; sisters Mary (Turano) Richard and Frances Turano of Leominster, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. He was predeceased by his brother Matteo Turano and his sister Anne (Turano) Navaroli.

Joe served during WWII in the Navy on the USS Relief in the South Pacific and received the American Theatre Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal (4 stars), and World War II Victory Medal. Upon honorable discharge, Joe returned to Leominster and worked for the former Foster Grant Company for over 45 years until his retirement. Joe enjoyed all sports and was a lifelong fan of Leominster High School athletics.

Joe’s gift was his genuine interest in others as he loved talking with friends and family. Even in his final days he continued to show interest in their lives and what was important to them. Another passion of his was thoroughbred horse racing as he may even have bet on a race or two.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Joe on Tuesday May 29th, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at Wright-Roy Funeral Home, 109 West Street in Leominster, followed by a Requiem Mass at St. Anna’s Church, 199 Lancaster Street in Leominster at 11:00am.
