Joseph Cupo, 83, of Jersey City, passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2018. Joseph was born on January 2, 1935 in Palomonte, Province of Salerno, Italy. Joseph worked for Western Electric in Kearny and Colgate Palmolive in Jersey City.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1954. In 1956, Joseph married his pre-deceased wife, Assunta (nee Garippo) Cupo. Later, Joseph was employed as a bridge operator with the State of New Jersey.

Joseph was also a plumber and electrician by trade. Joseph was an active participant in Italian-ethnic and cultural organizations which include: Lega Cilento, Columbus Democratic Club, Circolo Braccio y Cuoro, Casa Columbo and the Dante Alighieri Society of Jersey City. He was honored as “Man of the Year” with the Dante Alighieri Society of Jersey City in 2016.

He was President of the 9th Ward Italian American Democratic Club. Joseph was Secretary of the Society Antonio DiPadua Fra Citadini Palomontesi Da America. He was a long-time member of Hudson County Columbus Day Committee.

Joseph was an avid hunter and enjoyed going to Atlantic City with his family. Joseph’s greatest passion was spending time with his family, including his 4 children, Josephine, Assunta, Geraldine and Leonard, his son-in-law, Bruno and daughter-in-law, Leona, his 5 grandchildren, Giuseppe, Maria, Michael, Gabriella and Olivia, as well as, his sister-in-law, Maria Panza, brother-in-law, Patsy Panza, Sister-in law, Frances Cupo, and predeceased by his loving brother, Leonardo Cupo. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Visitation is on Thursday, May 17, 2018, 3:00pm to 9:00pm at RIOTTO FUNERAL HOME & Cremation Company, 3205 John F. Kennedy Blvd. , Jersey City, NJ 07306. Funeral will begin on Friday, May 18, 2018, 9:30am at the funeral home.

Funeral Mass will follow 10:30am at St. Aedan’s Church, Jersey City. Entombment will take place in Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum, North Arlington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Aedan’s Church, 800 Bergen Ave.
