Buerkle, 79, of Greenwich Township passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2019 in Rolling Hills Care Center in Clinton Township. Born June 2, 1939 in Elizabeth, NJ he was the son of the late Otto and Helen (Mahoney) Buerkle. He and his wife, the former Colleen Whalen, were married July 29, 1961.

He was an inhalation therapist at St. Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick before his retirement. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also had been a baseball coach in the area for 40 years.

Joseph was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Alpha. In addition to his loving wife, Colleen, he is survived by a son John (wife, Teri) of Saylorsburg, PA; a daughter Cheryl Strausser (husband, William) of Stewartsville; and a grandson Blaise. He is predeceased by a brother, Robert and a sister, Patricia.

A Memorial Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, June 8, 2019 at 10 a.m. in St. Mary Catholic Church, 830 5th Ave, Alpha, NJ. Arrangements are being handled by Doyle-Devlin Funeral Home, Inc. in Phillipsburg. Expressions of sympathy may be offered at www.
