Obituary for Joseph Martin Day On Thursday, July 19th Joseph Martin Day, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away at the age of 72. He was born on May 17th, 1946 in Madisonville, Kentucky to the late Marvin Beuford and Ruby (Martin) Day. He graduated from Murray State University where he was president of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and received his law degree from the University of Kentucky in 1972.

He practiced law for 46 years in Louisville specializing in agriculture and nursing home law. He was a proud supporter of UK athletics and a UK fellow. He was an enthusiast of Churchill Downs, the Kentucky Derby and was a founding member of their Turf Club.

He also had a love for golf and was a founding member of Valhalla Golf Club and a former member of Hunting Creek Country Club. Faithful member of Broadway Baptist Church and deacon for many years. Member of the American Bar Association, the Kentucky Bar Association and the Louisville Bar Association and the Louisville Agriculture Club.

He served in the United States Army Reserves from 1970-1978. He was a loyal and faithful friend to all. He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Sandy; daughter Julie (Greg) of Prospect and granddaughters, Colleen and Sydney.

Visitation will be held from 3-7 pm on Tuesday July, 24 at Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road, “in St. Matthews”, Louisville and on Wednesday July 25, from 3-7 pm at Harris Funeral Home, 134 N. Main Street, Madisonville, KY with a private burial on Thursday.
