Josh “JS” Mitchum went to be with his Lord Tuesday, January 22nd, 2019, at his home in Gaston surrounded by his loving family. He was 80 years old. JS was born May 3rd, 1938 in Bonneau, S.C. the son of Woodrow Tilman Mitchum Sr and Pearlie Victoria Cales Mitchum.

He married Shirley Elaine Peloso on Dec. 6th, 1982 in Lexington, S.C. JS joined the army in 1956 and served active duty until 1958 and then did four years of reserve. He has been a longtime active member of New Hope Worship Center in Gaston.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; 4 children; Tony Mitchum (Tammie) ,Dawn Knapper, Chris Knapper (Paige) and Jessica Mitchum (Brandon); 8 grandchildren; Elizabeth, TJ, Brianna, Madison, Tyler, McKenzie, Joshua, Isabella; 2 great grandchildren; Annabell and Alice; siblings; Grace (Raymond), Birtie, Winfred (Elaine), Joan (Bobbie), Tilman, Judy (T.D.) Preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 26th at New Hope Worship Center, 426 S. Main St, Gaston. Burial will follow at Celestial Memorial Gardens, 3111 Delree St. W. Columbia.
