Julia Marie (Julie Hansen) Griffin, 67, died Monday, April 30, 2018 at 2:15 P.M.. Surrounded by her loving family, at home, and under the loving, watchful care of Great River Hospice, Julie went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Julie was born March 30, 1951, in Keosauqua, IA to Roger and Kathryn (Johnston) Hansen.

Julie graduated from Burlington High School in 1969. She continued her education in Burlington Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, graduating as a registered nurse in 1972. She was a nurse for 46 years and had worked in several hospitals, home-health, and for oral surgeon, John Petersen, before starting a 25-year career in school nursing in Burlington schools.

Julie married Michael Swore on July 21, 1972; they later divorced. Julie was joined in Holy Matrimony to Marion (Chuck) Griffin on July 15, 1988. Julie spent her entire life serving others.

She always had warm smiles, comforting words of advice and compassionate hugs for family, friends, and all her students. Julie delighted in helping students with res such as coats, boots, shoes, clothes, and even took students and parents to medical appointments. She helped many deserving students and families with referrals to Make A Wish Foundation.

Julie loved children, beginning with her own three daughters: Susan, Amy, Sarah; then her ten grandchildren: Shelby Swore-Ross, Jasmine Swore-Carter, Jordan Bryant, Masiah Watson, Aubrey Ross, Nevaeh Watson, Nathaniel Watson IV, Lillian Robertson, Gerard Ellis II, Adelynn Robertson; three great-grandchildren, Teyana Lewis, Dacia Ross, Kaylieana Lewis; four nephews, two nieces, and any child she encountered. Julie led children’s church and Bible quizzing at Burlington First Church of the Nazarene. Julie’s personal relationship with Jesus Christ and deep abiding faith in God was evident to everyone she encountered and now brings her into eternal presence with God in Heaven.

Julie was preceded in death by her parents, Roger and Kay Hansen, sister, Jennifer Champagne, sister-in-law, Marsha Griffin, granddaughter, Dacia Watson, and great-grandson, Jamari Carter. Julie is survived by her loving devoted husband of 29 years, Marion C. (Chuck) Griffin; daughters: Susan Swore and fiancé Jabar Johnson, Sarah (Nathaniel) Watson III, both of Burlington, Amy (Christopher) Robertson of Fort Collins, CO; sister, Marilyn (Bob) Lemon of Culpeper, VA; brother, Peter (Hye Sang) Hansen of Burlington; sisters-in-law, Cindy (Kent) Van of Cora, WY, and Pam Griffin of Waterloo, IA; brother-in-law, Paul Champagne of Tallahassee, FL; aunt Patty (Laurence) Ray of San Marcos, TX; as well as grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.

Visitation will be on Friday, May 4, 2018 from 10:00 AM until 7:00 PM at Burlington First Church of the Nazarene, 1015 S. Roosevelt, Burlington, IA, with family receiving friends from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. The funeral service for Julie will be held at her place of worship on Saturday May 5, 2018 at 10:00 AM, with Pastor Terry Vance officiating, assisted by Pastor Terry Chapman and Song Evangelist Marcus Whitworth leading worship. A fellowship luncheon will be served at the church following internment at Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to Great River Hospice, Make A Wish Foundation, and First Church of the Nazarene.
