Powell, age 91, of Shullsburg, passed away on Friday, December 28, 2018 at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County. She was born on June 21, 1927 in Hyde, WI to Orville and Dorothy (Larsen) Hickcox. June married Merval Ross Powell on September 29, 1945 in Little Rock, AR.

Ross and June lived in Darlington 1954 until 1975 when they moved to Perry, IA. They retired to Shullsburg in 1988. June owned and operated June’s Beauty Parlors both in Darlington and in Perry, IA.

She also worked at Alco in Perry for many years. June was a very crafty person and crocheted doilies for over a thousand people, including President Obama. She also painted ceramics and crocheted over one hundred baby afghans for U.W. Children’s Hospital.

She was known for her homemade strawberry jam. June’s greatest joy was time spent her many dogs over the years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross on July 6, 2004; her parents; a grandson, Timothy Curry in 2015; two brothers, Donald (Tassie) Hickcox and Harold (Esther) Hickcox, a sister, Bernice (Harry) Forseth and Steve’s partner, Joan Gile Bailey December 18, 2018.

June is survived by her daughter, Karen (Mike) Curry of Darlington; two sons, James Powell of Madison and Steve Powell of Madison; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren as well as nieces, nephews and friends. Family graveside services were held on Sunday, December 30, 2018 with Pastor Jim Droste officiating. Online condolences may be made at www.
