Karen Sue Hawkins, 57, of Brookville, passed away unexpectedly Sunday morning, May 5, 2019, at her home. One of six children of Jerry and Peggy Ann Elliot Atkins, Karen was born in Connersville on May 29, 1961. She graduated from Laurel High School and later earned her bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Indiana University East.

For many years, Karen was employed at Belden Wire in Richmond. In her leisure time, she enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. Survivors include two children, Marie (Dave) Leyes and Anthony (Katherine) Atkins, all of Connersville; ten grandchildren; four brothers, Jerry (Joy) Atkins of Laurel, Terry Atkins, Dean Atkins, both of Connersville, and John (Diane) Atkins of Xenia, Ohio; a sister, Cindy (Brad) Whetstone of Connersville; several nieces and nephews.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, and step-father whom Karen was very close to, Montie Gibson. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
