Kathryne L. “Mammaw” Hixson, 77 of Wendel, died Wednesday, December 26, 2018 in UPMC East, Monroeville. She was born September 18, 1941 in Greensburg, a daughter of the late Robert M. and M. Helen Kline Youngstead. Prior to retirement she was a factory worker at Dyna Craft.

She was a member of Brush Creek United Church of Christ, Irwin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a nephew, Tom Buckley and a sister-in-law, Natalie Youngstead. She is survived by two daughters, Traci Synan and her husband Kevin of Penn Hills, and Tammi Hixson and Richard Kovacs of Wendel, a grandson, Matt Szekely and his wife Marta, three great-grandchildren, two siblings, Robert Youngstead of Louden, TN and Jean Buckley of Las Vegas, NV, her cat Precious and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received Saturday from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm in the MASON-GELDER FUNERAL HOME, INC. , 201 N. First St., Jeannette. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 12:30 pm in the Brush Creek United Church of Christ, 177 Brush Creek Road, Irwin.

Interment will follow in Brush Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital at www. stjude.org, or the Westmoreland County Food Bank at www.
