Kenneth’s Obituary Kenneth Vernon Soucy sadly passed on to the heavens to greet other passed loved ones on January 30th 2019 at 6:00 a.m in New Gloucester Maine at his group home. He was born on January, 29th 1977 in Fort Kent, Maine. He is survived by his mother Joan Marie Soucy, his sisters Krystie Soucy, Kassie Scott, Katie Westgate and Jaime Vining.

He had many nieces and nefews, uncles and aunts. He is also survived by all who took care of him, he had many that were dear to him at the group home where he was cared for. Kenneth had quite the amazing story, he was born with cerebral palsy, the doctors had said he would never walk, talk or be able to complete simple tasks.

But, with alot of physical therapy and his ever-so-strong will he over came it and was able to walk and say many words along with learning and making his very own sign language. He had a love for food, potatoes, Mc Donald’s French fries, cookies being his favorite and fizzy soda. The care takers would often take him out; he loved his car rides.

When he was a teen, being the jokester he was, he once took off out of the house and his mother was searching the house in a panic. He was found in the car laughing, watching her search. He wanted to go for a ride!

This man was truly incredible in everyway. He had such joy that brought many smiles to those who came in contact with him. He brought so much light to many lifes and was loved dearly by all.

As a teen, it was decided that he needed more special care to help him live the best life that he could. He joined a group home, having roommates and was able to be as independent as possible. His care takers were absolutely incredible helping and loving him through it all.

We will forever miss him dearly wishing we could have more time with him. We plan to have a service this spring and will update on the details. Kens care takers like family loved him so much that they have written their own story of their life with Ken.

Below is their story. Ken lived in New Gloucester for the past 13 years where he developed many special relationships and was fondly referred to as the “gentle giant” or the “big teddy bear”. He enjoyed dining out and frequented all the local establishments prior to his illness.

He was a practical joker with a goofy sense of humor and had an infectious giggle that touched the heart of anyone who met him. Ken attended Personal Onsite Development for 11 years where he was known as the “big guy” and a favorite of all staff. He participated in volunteering opportunities including delivering Meals on Wheels and newspapers to the local animal shelters.

He enjoyed going for walks, outings to the beach, apple picking, the county fair and long car rides. He had a large collection of magazines and puzzles which were his favorite pastimes, spending hours on each daily. Ken had an incredible strength and will to live, fighting off his illness for over a year and never losing his hankering for ice cream and soda.

Kenneth Soucy was loved by many and his strong presence and signature love taps will be missed by all who knew him.
