Kermit Garrett, Jr. Mystic- Kermit Garrett, Jr., age 78, of Ledyard, died January 18, 2019 at Academy Point in Mystic. He was born in Appomattox, VA February 12, 1940, the son of Kermit and Bettie [Cyrus] Garrett, both of whom preceded him in death. He was the loving husband of Joyce M. [Clark] Garrett, who survives him.

Mr. Garrett was a veteran, having served in the United States Marine Corp. He retired from a career at Electric Boat Company in Groton as an electrical engineer working on nuclear submarines. A gentleman through and through, he was quick to help others.

Through his actions and quiet words, he continually demonstrated a generous heart, strict moral code, and forgiving nature. He never became cynical or hardened by other’s actions or life’s circumstances. His greatest joy in life was becoming a grandfather.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Stephen Garrett (John), Duane Garrett (Laurie); brother Ralph Garrett (Judy) ; Sisters Christine Garrett Evans (Corbin) and Iris Garrett Thacker; two grandchildren, Aiden Garrett and Duane Garrett Jr.; as well as 9 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother Maynard Garrett and sister Barbara Snow. The funeral service will be conducted at 1 PM on Thursday at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave.

, New London. Interment will follow in the Colonel Ledyard Cemetery in Groton. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project.
