Obituary of Kervin Niver Kervin Niver, 83, of Lagrange, NY passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2018at home. He was the son of Harold E. and Myra S. Niver. He was born on a farm in Ancram, NY, in Columbia County, on March 8, 1935.

He was a graduate from Roeliff Jansen Central School in Hillsdale, NY in 1953. Kervin joined the Army in 1954 for 3 years. He spent eighteen months in Germany, and the last six months there, he was t-duty playing Regimental Baseball.

In 1957 he attended Mohawk Valley Technical Institute in Utica, NY where he studied Advertising Design & Production. While there, he was co-captain of the basketball team and was an All American in baseball. After graduation he started work at Western Publishing in Poughkeepsie, NY as a Lithography Film Stripper, and was there for 23 years, until Western Publishing closed in 1983.

He then worked at Danbury Printing & Litho in Danbury, CT. After being contacted by a “Head Hunter” he worked for Color Data East in Mt. Kisco, NY (Westchester County).

They later moved to Armonk, NY, and after commuting for seventeen years, he was ready to retire in March 2000. He loved sports. In his early years, while at Western, he played racquetball at Marist College, across the street from Western Publishing.

He played Interstate Baseball on Sunday’s and many years of slow pitch softball. His love of singing took him over four counties, singing with the “Golden Age Singers”. He also sang with the United Methodist Church Choir.

He loved woodworking; spending many hours in his cellar. On June 3, 1962 Kervin married his pretty wife Margaret A. Northrop in Poughkeepsie, NY. Their marital bliss took them through 56 years.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret, his son Michael and his wife Lauren, grandson Christopher of Southbury, CT and his daughter Michele of Monroe and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers Kermit, Keith and sisters Linda Hanlon and Jean Curran. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place.

There will be a service held on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at 2pm at the Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave. , Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
