Kevin Echols August 05, 1958 – April 17, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook Today we celebrate the legacy of our father, grandfather, and friend, Kevin Gilbert Echols. Lived Life With Love Kevin was born in Manhattan, New York on August 5, 1958. He was the youngest of five children.
He had one brother that preceded him in death, Gary Rahmel Echols. He leaves his mother, Thelma Moore; ex-wife and friend, Saluda Anderton Echols; one brother, Dumar Echols; two sisters, Corliss Echols and Denise Grant; two brothers-in-law, Xavier Scott and Robin Grant; his children, Sadqua Sofia Echols Christian, Kevin Eric Echols, and stepson, Kareem Nesbitt; five grandchildren, Deborah Echols “Sweetie”, a set of triplets, Trinity Christian, LaMarcus Christian, Londyn Christian, and Christian Echols; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins throughout the states. Kevin, affectionately known as “Big Kev”, grew up in Harlem, NY.
He attended Alfred E. Smith High School, where he was fascinated about electronics. He later used his skill to electrify many things in his co-op. Kevin had inspirations at an early age to become a successful entrepreneur starting from selling Fila suede suits with his only son Little Kevin, to becoming a store owner in Harlem in the early 80’s named KKS.
He was full of ambition and anything he did he succeeded. After being an entrepreneur for several years, Kevin decided to try working for corporate America. Kevin leveraged his education and personal knowledge to enhance his career and was given an opportunity to work for River Bay Corporation where he was just months short of twenty years.
Commanded to Love Kevin enjoyed giving speeches and lectures to anyone he felt deserved it. It was almost an expectation that not only would he give you a speech, but he would captivate and become one with you mentally, he finessed your soul. He was a man that loved his mother so very much, she had no imperfections to him.
He loved his family and understood the balance and strengths that each family member had; that’s why it was no difficulty to keep us together for as long as he did. He was our rock, our strength and our light that guided us through darkness. Through his eyes we saw the beauty in what he saw in us.
Kevin was a loving and understanding man that never judged, only giving you empowerment to embrace your own strengths and treasures that he already discovered in you. Quote from Saluda Anderton: “Already greatly missed and loved dearly”. Quote from Sweetie: “I love you Grandpa, always and forever”.
Quote from Kevin Echols: “I love you and I miss you Dad”. Quote from Sadqua Echols: “Thanks for giving me the greatest gift, life”. Kevin was welcomed with open arms by his Maker, his brother, and many loved ones on April 17, 2019.
