July 1, 1948 – February 14, 2019 Lannis D. Martin, of Owens Cross Roads, passed away Thursday February 14, 2019. He was preceded in death by his Mother Estelle Martin, Father Odell Martin, brother Timmy Martin and cousin James Willis Martin. Lannis was raised and continued to live in Owens Cross Roads until his passing.

He served his country in the US Army. That service lead him to Vietnam where he fought as a teenager and eventually received a honorable discharge. After returning from the Army he went on to continue his career at Redstone Arsenal.

After leaving the Arsenal he began to work for the US Postal Service until retirement. He retired with several accommodations for being an exemplary employee. Lannis never knew a stranger.

He had the biggest heart of anyone you ever met. He was generous and good beyond belief. He was most at home relaxing under a shade tree and never liked to be cooped inside a house.

His love of antique tractors, guns and knifes made him many new friends. He was a loving father, grandfather, and a generous friend. Lannis is survived by his daughter Laurie Miller, granddaughter Ava Miller, brothers Douglas and Jackie Martin, as well as nieces and great nieces.

Lannis will not be having a local service at his request. He will be laid to rest at Albert G Horton Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, VA. He will receive a burial with full military honors and accommodations.
