Larry’s Obituary Chaplain, Lieutenant Colonel, Larry Dee Mosley, USAF (ret. ), 82, went home to his Lord on Sunday, January 20, 2019. He grew up in Birmingham, AL attending Ensley High School and Birmingham Southern College (BA degree.

) He was ordained a United Methodist Elder after graduation from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University (M. Div degree) in 1960. He served as youth minister and pastor to eight appointments in the North Alabama Conference of the United Methodist Church, including Brookhaven, Arnold’s Chapel, Midway, Kellyton-Bradford, Sycamore, Bynum, Florence (as associate pastor) and North Gadsden.

He entered the US Air Force as a Chaplain in 1967, serving at Reese AFB, Lubbock, TX, U-Tapao Royal AB, Thailand (Vietnam War), Malmstrom AFB, Great Falls, MT, Spangdahlem AFB, Germany, Maxwell AFB, Montgomery, AL, Thule Air Base, Greenland, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX, RAF Greenham Common, England and Scott AFB, Illinois, retiring from active duty in 1992. During his time on active duty he earned his second Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling from Troy University in 1977 and his Federal Aviation Association commercial pilot’s license, as well as many medals and awards from the USAF. He moved to Pensacola, FL in 1992 and served 10 years as associate pastor with Dr. Henry Roberts at Pensacola First United Methodist Church.

He led Missions Work Area teams to Jamaica, Russia, Cameroon, Israel/Palestine, Costa Rica and Peru. He led tour groups to Greece, Israel/Palestine and Egypt. He led the Older Adults Ministry, visiting homes, hospitals and nursing homes and he organized and recruited Stephen Ministers.

He led the Church and Society Work Area, building 10 Habitat for Humanity houses in Pensacola and participating in three overseas Habitat International builds in Kathmandu, Nepal, My Tho in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam and in Solola, Guatemala. After retirement from the United Methodist itineracy in 2002, he served as Chaplain to the Azalea Trace Retirement Community for 10 years. He and his wife became residents of Azalea Trace in 2008.

From 1993 until 2018 he served on the Board of Directors of the Council on Aging of West Florida, serving as chairman for two years and treasurer for one year. During 2014 and 2015 he served as supply pastor of Cedar Hill UMC in Brewton, AL finally retiring due to health issues. Then from 2015 to 2018 he served a Meals on Wheels route, taking meals to families in need every other Thursday.

He was a loving and generous husband, father and grandfather, and so very proud of his family. He lived a long life of faithful service to his church, his God and his country. He will be deeply missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Herman H. Mosley and Marybelle Self Mosley and his son, Larry Dee Mosley, Jr He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sarah Frances Prosser Mosley; his beloved daughters, Erin Mosley Stark (husband, Steven) and Amy Mosley Rankin (husband, James); 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; brother, H. Hudson Mosley (wife, Faye) and sister, Sandra Mosley Gerhardt (husband, Richard). His Service of the Resurrection will be held 2:00pm Monday, January 28, 2019 at First United Methodist Church, Pensacola, with Dr. Henry Roberts officiating.

A reception will follow the service in the Wright Place. In lieu of flowers, he asked that donations be made in his name to the Living Trust, First UMC Pensacola or the Council on Aging of West Florida.
