Larry D. Hindman, 71, of Oak Grove passed away peacefully in his home February 4, 2019, surrounded by his wife and his girls. Larry was the eldest of three sons born to Barney and Ellen (Schmitt) Hindman. He grew up in Brighton, Alabama and was a graduate of Hueytown High School.

Larry served his country just as his father and grandfather had done before him. He was a US Army Combat veteran having served in Vietnam as a helicopter crew chief in the 9th Aviation Battalion. He later became a skilled refractory brick mason and worked in the industry for more than 30 years before retiring in 2006.

He was known in his industry for his integrity and keen attention to detail. Larry was an avid collector and enjoyed woodworking and tinkering in his shop. Fishing and relaxing at his river cabin were also a favorite past time.

He spent countless weekends with his family and friends making memories, telling stories and relaxing on the front porch at dusk enjoying the view of the sun setting on the water. He was known for his quiet, loyal nature, his blue eyes and his unwavering resolve. He was an anchor for his family and their loss is great.

They are comforted in the promise of seeing him again and until then they relish in the pieces of him that can be seen in his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Mitzy Day Hindman; two daughters, Pamela Pledger and Kristie (Trent) Draper; five grandchildren, Mallory (Tyler) Anderson, Hudson, John Woods, Katherine and Anna Claire Draper; two great-grandchildren, Emma-Grace and Caleb Anderson; two brothers, Sandy (Pam) and Nolan (Patsy) Hindman; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family would like to thank Comfort Care Hospice and especially Beth, Lorraine, Vanessa and Amanda for the kindness, compassion and respect they have given while supporting and guiding our family through this difficult journey.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 7, 2019 from 11:30 am to 1 pm at Valhalla Funeral Home, Midfield, AL 35228. Funeral Services will follow at 1 pm with burial in Valhalla Cemetery.
