Laura Belle Graves, 95, of Bangs TX went to be with her Lord on January 30, 2019. The family will be announcing a Celebration of Life ceremony at a later date. Laura Belle (Pace) Graves was born on August 7, 1923 to Herndon and Beulah Mae Pace in Sherman, TX.

Laura was the youngest of her siblings. She graduated high school in 1942 from Amherst, TX and went to work at the South Plains hospital in Amherst, TX. In those days the night shift nurses stayed at the nurse’s home across the street from the hospital.

Laura married a military man from New York she met in Lubbock at the base, Benjamin Sears and their union was blessed with a daughter. Laura then married her sweetheart George “Buddy” Henry Coleman and their union was blessed with a daughter and a son. Laura lost Buddy early in life and worked hard as a nurse while raising her children as a single mother.

Laura travelled to Virgina working as a nurse but soon moved back to Texas where she took nursing classes at Texas Tech and graduated nursing school at Odessa College of nursing. While living in Midland she joined the VFW post 7208 auxiliary and served as president for four years. She worked for Dr. J.W. Chatwell and Dr. Hinckly as their office nurse and she worked several years for Nurses Unlimited, Midland TX.

Later in life, Laura found a companion in Ed Graves. Laura belonged to the First United Methodist Church of Bangs, Texas. She loved to walk, would go walking every day and she continued to do so at the nursing home.

Laura was fond of her dogs and cats and liked to spend time with her animals. Her favorite things were the family gatherings and making her own version of stacked enchiladas. She was all about her family.

Laura is survived by her son, Larry “Stride” Keith Coleman of Ft. Bragg, North Carolina; daughters, Donna Mae and husband Larry Elder of Bangs, TX, Georgeann Bradner of Quinton, VA; grandchildren Michael and wife Sherry Elder of Hawley, TX, John and wife Jessica Elder of Coleman, TX, Kimberly Ann Craighead of Roanoke, VA, Lori Ann and husband Larry Green of Quinton, VA; great grandchildren, Sarah and Jake Elder, Katy Jade, Brady and Case Elder, Kailyn Bradner and Jordan Craighead; and a niece, Robbie and Bobby Gronewald from LaGrange, TX. Laura was preceded in death by her mother and father, sisters, Ethel Logan and Edna Mae; brothers, Johnny and James Pace, twin brother and sister Donald Earl and Margaret Merle Pace.
