Obituary for Laura Spencer Grossman It is with great sadness that the family of Laura Spencer Grossman announces her death after a very lengthy illness in LaGrange, GA. She was 57 years old. Born in Greensboro, NC on Easter Sunday April 2, 1961 she attended Winona Park Elementary School in Decatur, GA, Tucker High School, and Druid Hills High School where she was elected Miss Druid Hills of 1979.
After graduating, she attended Virginia Intermont College, majoring in dance and graduated from Brenau University in 1983 with a degree in Criminal Justice. She spent a majority of her career as a loan officer for Wells Fargo in Atlanta, GA. Laura attended the Decatur School of Ballet for 15 years and danced with their senior company, Decatur Civic Ballet for many years.
After marriage, she moved to West Point, GA and joined the West Point Women’s Club where she served as President and made many lifelong friends. Mrs. Grossman is preceded in death by her father Forrest James Spencer, her grandparents Loring and Edna Wilson of Avondale Estates, Earl Frith of Atlanta, and Ida Mae Spencer of Gainesville, GA. She is survived by her husband Michael Grossman M.D of West Point, GA.
, mother Harriet F. Spencer of Atlanta, and her daughter Ansley Christman Irvin (Daniel) and grandson Kade Forrest Irvin of Johnson City, TN. She also leaves three brothers, Michael L. Spencer (Lisa) of Cumming, GA, Patrick L. Spencer (Deborah) of Acworth, GA, and Daniel S. Spencer (Merideth) of Newnan, GA. Left to remember her big heart are nieces and nephews Matthew and Abigail Spencer, Patrick Spencer Jr., and Grayson and Bennett Spencer.
Her loving heart also leaves step children Michael Grossman Jr., Lola Grossman, and Cheryl Grossman. The service for Laura will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at The Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, 2089 Ponce de Leon Avenue NE Atlanta, GA (corner of Ponce and East Lake) with visitation and reception after in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation (JDRF) in her honor at 3525 Piedmont Road Atlanta, GA (www.
jdrf.org/georgia) or the charity of your choice. The family wishes to thank West Georgia Hospice for their loving care of Laura and also her special caregivers Martha Herves and Mary Reese. We also wish to give our special love to Sammy, Laura’s golden retriever, who never left her side.
