Obituary for Laurin “Mick” W. Schwinkendorf Laurin (Mickey) W. Schwinkendorf passed peacefully at his home in Keizer on July 24, 2018. Mickey was born November 17, 1935, in New Salem, North Dakota, the third son of Wally and Hattie Schwinkendorf. The family moved to Oregon in 1937 and to Newberg in 1942.

At Newberg High School Mickey was active in FFA and was catcher on the baseball team. He worked in Alaska during summers while attending Western Oregon College of Education, Portland State, and Oregon State where he graduated with a business degree. He worked in banking and for the Boeing Company before returning to Oregon to work as an auditor for The Department of State Lands until retirement.

Mickey was a humble and gentle man who enjoyed many lasting friendships. He was known for his many jokes and stories. He enjoyed the outdoors, whether hunting, camping, or helping his parents on the family farm.

He was an ardent fan of The Portland Trailblazers and The Keizer Volcanoes. He is survived by his wife Mary, sister Judy Gregoire, brother Kevin, sister-in-law Doris Schwinkendorf, nephews Jerry Gregoire, Jim Gregoire, and Jeff Schwinkendorf, nieces Antoinette Gregoire and Nicole Schwinkendorf, seven great nephews and nieces, one great great niece, and stepson David Ingram. Two brothers, Allyn and Leon, preceded him in death.

The family wishes to thank the many caregivers who tended to Mickey during his illness. We are grateful for the time we had. A celebration of Mickey’s life will be held at Attrell’s Funeral Chapel, 207 Villa Road in Newberg on September 8 at 1:00pm.
