Lavera’s Obituary Lavera Sena Marie Harms, 83, of Cole Camp, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2019, surrounded by her husband and family at Bothwell Regional Health Center, Sedalia. She was born on October 5, 1935, in Balke Prairie near Cole Camp, Missouri, a daughter of Albert William and Leona Maria (Pritzel) Balke. On June 1, 1958, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church near Cole Camp, she was united in marriage to Harold Harms by Pastor A. J. F. Meier.
This union was blessed with six children: Debra Kay, Vickie Lynn, Randy Neal, Stanley Joe, Russell Don, and Michael Garrett. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, near Cole Camp, Missouri, where she belonged to the Ladies Aid and Altar Guild and for nearly fifty years, taught Sunday school. She had worked at the Cole Camp Producer’s Exchange, Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Dari Bar, and was a cook for the Lutheran School Association for 23 years, retiring on May 23, 2007.
Lavera enjoyed watching the grandkids ball games and going to school events, banquets, and music programs. She also enjoyed spending time babysitting her grandchildren, canning vegetables from her garden, working word search books, and using her iPad. She loved the Cole Camp Fair, the parade and the floats and had pleated thousands of flowers throughout the years and helped with the education and floral committees.
She is survived by her husband of more than 60 years, Harold Harms of the home; two daughters, Debra Harms of Cole Camp and Vickie Miller and her husband Jim of Cole Camp; four sons, Randy Harms and his wife Lora of Cole Camp, Stanley Harms and his wife Jill of Belton, Russell “Rusty” Harms of Cole Camp, Michael Harms of Dallas, Texas; a brother, Larry Balke of Lincoln; a sister-in-law, Sandra Balke of Cole Camp; nine grandchildren, Jordan Miller, Taylor Harms, Trenton Miller, Quincy Carver, Mason Farris, Drew Harms, Josilyn Harms, Broderic Harms, and Jenna Harms; and two great-grandchildren, Carly Joe Hayes and Rhett Allen Miller. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Leona Balke, and her brother, Bob Balke. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 29, 2019, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, near Cole Camp, with Pastor Tyler Poppen officiating.
Burial will be in Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery, near Cole Camp. The family will receive friends beginning at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2019, at the Fox Funeral Home in Cole Camp, with a prayer service to be held at 7:30 p.m. The family suggests memorial contributions be given to Holy Cross Cemetery Fund or Lutheran School Association in care of the Fox Funeral Home, PO Box 37, Cole Camp, MO 65325. Pallbearers will be Jordan Miller, Trenton Miller, Drew Harms, Broderic Harms, D. J. Hayes, Dylan Carver, and Nyk Farris.
Honorary pallbearers will be Taylor Hayes, Quincy Carver, Mason Farris, Josilyn Harms, Jenna Harms, Sara Miller, Danielle Allen, Carly Joe Hayes, and Rhett Allen Miller.
