Obituary for LaVerne L. Quadhamer LaVerne Leslie Quadhamer, 93, of Kearney, formerly of Upland, passed away on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Mt. Carmel Home in Kearney. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, August 17, 2018 at the First Christian Church in Minden with Ivan Schoone and Rev.
Joe Tira officiating. Military honors will be presented at the church by the Minden American Legion and Heartwell V.F.W. in conjunction with the United States Army Honor Guard. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date at the Upland Cemetery.
There will be no visitation as the family has honored Laverne’s wish to be cremated. Memorials are suggested to the Upland Volunteer Fire Dept. Craig Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
LaVerne was born on May 26, 1925 in Hildreth, Nebraska to Herman and Linda (Trebold) Quadhamer. He grew up on the family farm near Hildreth and attended country school. He later served his country with the United States Army during the Korean conflict.
LaVerne was united in marriage to Shirley Mae Yelken on October 8, 1950. The family made their home near Hildreth and Upland where LaVerne farmed and held various jobs related to agriculture. He was later employed at Eaton Corporation in Kearney.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Upland where he sang in the choir. He was an EMT with the Upland Volunteer Fire Dept, and was also a member of the American Legion. LaVerne enjoyed hunting Deer and water fowl as well as fishing.
He had a love for gardening where he grew cucumbers, tomatoes and onions. He loved to share the bounty of his garden with friends and relatives. He was very proud of his giant pumpkins.
LaVerne also enjoyed going to the Franklin senior center for meals and card games. He also served on the administrative board there. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Shirley Quadhamer of Kearney; sons, Steven Quadhamer and wife, Colleen of Minden and Lynn Quadhamer and wife Cindy of Minden; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Linda Quadhamer and one sister, Lucille (Quadhamer) Petersen. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of AseraCare Hospice and Mt. Carmel Home for their wonderful care and compassion.
