Lawana Darlene (Powell) Taylor, Duncan, was born April 10, 1940, in rural Cotton County to Granville and Pinkie Powell. She passed away January 4, 2019, at the age of 78. A visitation will be held Monday, January 7, 2019, from 5pm-7pm at Whitt Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at 2:00pm at the Duncan Cemetery with Rev. Randy Southerland officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.

Lawana grew up in Walters where she attended Lonestar and Walters High School. Later she attended beauty school in Duncan where she practiced for a short time before becoming a fulltime homemaker. She married Roger Dale Sanders and later married Robert (Bobby) Lee Taylor.

He preceded her in death December, 2015. Lawana was a caring mother and enjoyed raising her family. She loved spending time with her children, playing cards, games and being outdoors with her grandsons, and visiting with extended family.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Bobby) Lee Taylor; grandson, Cody Sanders; parents, Granville and Pinkie Powell; and sister, Yvonne Dempsey. Survivors include her children: Darla Sanders of Walters, Dwight Sanders of Walters, Robyn Medlin and husband Kevin of Alvord, TX, and Brent Taylor of Walters; grandchildren: Dylan Sanders, Brandon Sanders, Colt Sanders, Colby Medlin and Carsen Medlin; aunt, Janet Hallengren of Storm Lake, Iowa; a special nephew, Duane Dempsey of Walters; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
