Lawrence Gene Jantosik, 73, of 31 N. Park Ave. Meadville, passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at Wesbury United Methodist Community. Larry was born in Charleroi, on July 17, 1945, a son of Anthony John Jantosik and the late Christine Ann (Misko) Jantosik.

After 37 years of service, Larry retired from Rogers Brothers Corporation in 2002 where he began working following his 1964 graduation from Cambridge Springs High School. A Vietnam veteran, Larry enlisted in the US Navy on October 22, 1965 and served his county aboard the USS King, which rescued downed pilots.

For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Vietnam Service Medal w/four Stars, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was honorably discharged on October 10, 1969. Larry was a great patriot and hard worker all of his life, beginning at a very young age helping his parents with the family farm on which he grew up.

Once his health began to decline he reluctantly came to terms with the fact he could no longer work. When he could no longer drive due to his illness, he donated his truck to the Saegertown Fire Department in appreciation of and with respect for emergency responders. A lifetime resident of Saegertown and an avid outdoorsman, Larry loved to hunt and fish in this area.

When he wasn’t hunting or fishing he could be found on his little piece of property on the dirt road, known as Creek Road, watching the wildlife. Woodchucks didn’t stand a chance when Larry stepped into their territory. He loved to tell his hunting stories of which he had many.

He was very proud of doing all his own reloading. Although Larry was a very quiet and low-key person, he had the most kind, loving and generous soul. He will be most remembered as a devoted son, brother and uncle.

He will be dearly missed. Larry is survived by his father Anthony Jantosik, his sister Kathleen Winans both of Meadville, his Aunt Helen Morrone of Pittsburgh, two nieces Melissa Herrmann (Eric), Sarah Burroughs (Josh) both of Erie, a nephew Brad Winans (girl friend Ashley Harvey) of Meadville, great nephew Logan Herrmann and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother Christine Jantosik three years ago and a brother in law Craig Winans.

Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, September 13, from 3-5 PM at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC. , 330 BROAD ST. , SAEGERTOWN.

Private Funeral Services will be held with Joe Frank, Chaplain of Southern Care Hospice, officiating. Private interment will Full Military Honors will take place in St. James Cemetery, Edinboro.
