LENI HOHNE Leni Maria Hohne, 88, of Quincy, passed away at 9:10 a.m. Thursday (January 3, 2019) in her home. Born March 14, 1930 in Gottingen, Germany, Leni was the daughter of Fritz and Dorette Kramer Weiland. She married Buford Hughes on September 4, 1954 in Germany.

She later married Henry Hohne on January 12, 1983 in Quincy. He preceded her in death on December 7, 2003. Following Henry’s death, Leni enjoyed spending time with her companion, Heinz Mauer who preceded her in death in August, 2017.

Leni was a member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ. She enjoyed dancing and listening to Polka music, crocheting, cooking and baking for her family and friends, reading and watching T.V., especially old western shows. Leni loved traveling throughout the continental United States and making many trips back to Germany.

She was a snowbird and enjoyed spending the winters in Florida where she liked to swim and was active with the German-American Society in St. Petersburg. Leni was employed as a cashier for K-Mart in Quincy until her retirement in 1979. Survivors include two daughters, Diane Kelahan (Jim) of Edwardsville, IL and Cindy Kirkland of Chesapeake, VA; a son, Mike Hughes (Sharon) of New London, MO; eight grandchildren, Ryan Faust (fiance’, Shannon Faulkner) of Cave Springs, AR, Cameron Kelahan of Edwardsville, IL, Caleb Kelahan of Edwardsville, IL, Mitchell Kirkland of Chesapeake, VA, Matthew Kirkland of Tampa, FL, Derrick Kraus of Libertyville, IA, Dustin Kraus of Carthage, IL and Emily Sigmund (Jake) of Ursa, IL; four great grandchildren, Wyatt Faust, Madelyn Faust, Evan Kraus and Jordan Sigmund; a special friend whom she thought of as a daughter, Sheila Karhoff of Quincy; two step sons, Frank Hohne and Reiner Hohne; three step grandchildren, Christopher Hohne, Nicholas Hohne and Matthew Hohne; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Leni was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry; two sisters, Dora Seegert and Irmgart Wachsmuth; and two brothers, Wilhelm Weiland and Fritz Weiland. Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 10:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Pastor Matt Hunt officiating. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday evening from 3:00 to 6:00 and Monday morning from 10:00 until the time of services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Blessing Cancer Center.
