Obituary for Leo Daley Dateline – Kennebunkport Leo Hayden Daley, 81, of Kennebunkport, Maine, died peacefully on March 6, 2018 at Southern Maine Health Care. His family gathered to be with him. Leo was born on April 10, 1936, the first child of Leo Francis Daley and Dorothy Bailey Daley.

He grew up in Andover, graduated from Phillips Academy Andover and entered Harvard in 1953 with the class of ’57. At both schools he was a valuable member of the football squad. In 1955 he took a time-out to serve in the United States Marine Corp.

Following his discharge from active duty he completed his Harvard education with a degree in Economics. On May 21, 1960, Leo married Cynthia Stuart Carmichael. They first met in a Harvard class and again later, when both were working for IBM.

The marriage was a happy 57 years. They lived for 25 years in Winchester, MA before being drawn to life in Maine. They had summered for many years at Drakes Island where Leo served a jovial term as the DIIA president.

Leo lived in Maine for 24 years. Leo had a long career as an Investment Banker for several major firms in Boston, and joined another in Portland. He remained in the business until he retired at age 79.

Leo served on the Boards of Mass. Eye and Ear, Milton Bradley and The Second Club of Boston. When Leo was not working, he most enjoyed spending time with his beloved family and friends, laughter and fun, staying current on all sporting and business news, keeping on top of investment strategies and being near the ocean.

He was a member of the Kennebunk River Club and a devoted member of St. Ann’s Episcopal Church. Leo is predeceased by his dear sister, Agnes Daley Rothrock. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia; son, Leo Jr. (“Toby”) and wife Alison of Manchester-by-the Sea, MA; “Gummer’s” grandchildren, Leo Alexander Daley, Hannah Elizabeth Daley, and Rachel Cynthia Daley; brother, Daniel Daley and wife, Hilda, also, of Manchester.

“Uncle Leo” also loved being with his nieces and nephew: Heidi Rothrock, Elizabeth Rothrock DeLarge, Kristin Rothrock Brodeur, Dede Daley Warren, Dinah Daley Sullivan and Joe Daley A Memorial Service will be held at St. Ann’s Episcopal Church in Kennebunkport in the early summer. Details will soon follow. In lieu of flowers, should friends choose, memorial donations in his name may be sent to The Agnes Daley Rothrock Scholarship Fund.
