Leon Herbert Talley, August 06, 1933 — April 07, 2018

Obituary for Leon Herbert Talley Mr. Leon Herbert Talley a resident of Plantation Estates in Matthews, North Carolina went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 7, 2018. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Clara Hughes Talley and they were married for 56 wonderful years. He was born in Highlands, North Carolina son of Jabe Thomas and Mattie Henry Talley.

Leon was also preceded in death by brothers Fred Hugh Talley, Ed Thomas Talley and a sister Myrtle Louise Owens. Leon is survived by two loving sons, daughter in laws and four beloved grandchildren. His eldest son Brian Paschal and his wife Gabriell Cowan Talley, their two sons William Hughes and Jabe Carson Talley of Charlotte, North Carolina.

His youngest son Christopher Ellis and his wife Melany AnnTalley, their two daughters Mattilyn Ann and Ellissa Ann Talley of Angier, North Carolina. Leon is also survived by his loving sisters Grace T. Lankford and Jessie Talley. He also leaves behind many other loving family members and friends.

Mr. Talley attended Western Carolina College (University) where he received a B.S. in Education and an M.A. in Elementary Education and Administration. While at WCC/U he was honored as Student Teacher of the Year. He taught and was an elementary school principal for 32 years in the Charlotte Mecklenburg school system.

Leon also did advance work at the University of North Carolina. Leon attended church at Carmel Baptist Church for 29 years where he served on the Wee School committee, Mission committee, Carmel Christian School committee and was deacon for a number of years. He also served as a greeter and worked in the kitchen for 15 years, as well as working at the GAP desk for 20 years.

Leon loved his Lord, family, precious dogs, friends, meeting new people and his beloved wife, children and grandchildren. Services to celebrate Mr. Leon Talley’s life here on Earth will be held on Saturday April 14, 2018 at Carmel Baptist Church 1145 Pineville-Matthews Road Matthews, North Carolina 28105. Visitation/Condolences with the family will be at 11:00 am with Funeral services to immediately follow at 12:00 pm.
