Leonard “Pap” Starkey, 90, of Marietta, died Sunday, September 16, 2018 at Harmar Place. He was born May 28, 1928 in Marietta to Clarence and Mabel Starkey. Pap was a veteran of the U.S. Army, who served in Korea in several battles and was a Staff Sergeant upon discharge.

He received many medals for his service. He married Marcella Garner on October 25, 1951. Pap worked as a mechanic locally for several years and retired from Kardex after 37 years.

He attended Wagner Union Baptist Church. When he wasn’t working on cars, he enjoyed fishing hunting, Ohio State Football, gardening, bird and squirrel watching. He also enjoyed helping raise his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Pap will be deeply missed by his wife Marcella; children Treva (Gary) Ross, Michael (Stephanie) Starkey; grandchildren Jodi (Roger) Hasley, Eric (Jeanette) Starkey, Jennifer (Brian) Goff, Christa Harper, Brooke Brown and Jake Brown; great-grandchildren Wyatt Whitehouse, Olivia Whitehouse, Garrett Goff, Gabriella Goff, Emma Harper, Sara Harper, Ian Harper, Molly Hasley and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jack Starkey, sister Virginia Oliver. Friends may call Tuesday, September 18 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-East Lawn Chapel, 27880 St. Rt.

7, Marietta. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Gene Ferrell officiating. Burial will be at East Lawn Memorial Park, where military rites will be held.
